What Jobs Are Booming Right Now?

If you are looking for work or contemplating a career change, knowing which jobs are booming right now can help to narrow your search. Looking for work in the right sector can mean a higher starting salary and a lot more room for growth. Check out these five career fields that are booming right now.

The Cleaning Industry

According to Statista, there are about three million people employed in the cleaning industry as of May 2020, and according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the industry is set to grow by 1.9% this year alone. There is a need for millions of cleaners across the country. Some positions are for working in the residential sector but the real need is in the commercial industry.

There were 21,000 jobs advertised for janitorial staff in May 2022. Many of the positions were for hotels, resorts, office buildings, and other commercial properties. The average starting salary for cleaning staff was roughly $17 an hour.

The Medical Field

Every job in the medical field is booming, from doctors to nurses to CNAs to medical assistants to housekeeping staff in hospitals. There are 97,000 jobs posted online working in some capacity in the medical field. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, filling these work positions has been very difficult. Organizations are paying top dollar for anyone willing to work in a hospital, doctor’s office, nursing facility, and other medical settings.

While 40% of millennials want a telemedicine option (those interviewed reported that it was extremely or very important to them to have this option), according to TeleNet, many people still prefer walking into a doctor’s office for their care. The need for staff to work in those offices is tremendous. The need is so big, in fact, that not only will you be very generously compensated for your work but you may receive a hefty bonus for signing on.

Grounds Maintenance and Landscapers

The Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts that the need for ground maintenance workers will increase by 10% in the decade between 2019 and 2029. There are some serious perks to this type of work. For example, you can be outside all day every day. You get to work in nature and do something good for the environment.

You can expect to get paid well for your work since there is seemingly a shortage of people that want to work in this field. If you have a little experience under your belt, you may be able to get a sign-on bonus with the right company.

Fast Food, Restaurants, and Bars

Fast food, restaurants, and bars are all experiencing shortages right now. Millennials are one of the highest-educated generations ever. They number about 83 million according to the Census Bureau, and they also happen to be the largest demographic group in the workforce. Fast food restaurants, sit-down eateries, bars, and other hospitality sectors are feeling the pinch of this highly educated generation and are having trouble finding people to work with.

The good news in these sectors is the wages have increased dramatically to try to find people who will work. Higher wages are not the only thing that is available in these booming jobs. Many chains are offering reimbursement for college tuition, health insurance plans, and other perks not necessarily associated with the fast food or hospitality industry.

Customer Service Jobs

The customer service industry is booming. Many customer service jobs are “work from home jobs”. Customer service jobs have gone remote and look like they are staying that way. In most cases, the company will provide training but does not provide things like a laptop. You will have to have your own. Many big companies are using remote workers to manage their customer care, including Amazon, Microsoft, and other corporate giants.

The need for customer service representatives is huge right now. If you are looking for work and you want a legitimate work-from-home gig, look to the customer service industry. The Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts that customer service positions will grow by about 13% over the next five years.

There are many industries that are in the midst of a hiring frenzy. This is a great time to take advantage of finding work that pays well and comes with plenty of perks. Start your search today.
